UAPA President's Message - April 2016

It’s been a couple of months since the Asphalt Conference and I am still hearing great feedback everyday, it seems to still be on everyone’s mind.  I wanted to personally thank everyone for the time and effort you put in to make it so successful.  The speakers, teachers, education, and organization were all very professional so thanks to everyone for a wonderful job.  We had just fewer than 1,000 attendees and we are quickly becoming the premier asphalt conference for Utah, I am already looking forward to another great conference next year.

I am very excited about working with all of you as President of UAPA this year.   UAPA is continuing to grow and bring value to our members and to the entire asphalt industry.  We have multiple committees and have worked with UDOT, APWA, and other identities to improve specifications and processes.  I would like to invite everyone to discover what UAPA is all about and to become involved at any level.  We encourage anyone who would like to be involved to come and see what UAPA is all about.

Opportunities to Educate: Important Changes to the APWA Asphalt Specifications

Dear Friends of UAPA:

As many of you know, over the course of past year the Utah Asphalt Pavement Association (UAPA) worked closely with the Utah Chapter of the APWA to make some important changes to the APWA specifications. With the 2016 season upon us, it is important to understand the significance of these changes and how they affect owners, cities, counties, contractors, and our general industry moving forward. Indeed, these changes will affect mix designs, bidding, and the construction of asphalt pavements under the APWA specifications.  

To help educate as many entities as possible and as a free courtesy, UAPA will come to your organization and visit with you about these changes and their impact. This invitation is open to all cities, counties, contractors, and others that have an interest in the specification changes. To schedule a time for a visit, please feel free to reach out to me (reed@utahasphalt.org or (801) 916-2426) and we will be happy to take the time to come to you to chat about what has changed and what it means for you as someone engaged in industry here in Utah.  

As always, thanks for all the good you do in Utah to help build and preserve some of the best roads in the entire country. We believe these recent changes will only help to improve our position as one of the best. Please do not hesitate to take the association up on this free offer to come to you and help educate you on these specifications and how they may help you.

Executive Director Message January 2016

Welcome to 2016!  The year is off to a great start with the association busily engaged in the planning and preparation for the 2016 Utah Asphalt Conference happening on the 24th and 25th of February at the South Towne Expo Center.  You can read more about the conference and why you should participate in this great event by reading the rest of the newsletter, but I do hope you will join us for what promises to be another great conference and equipment show this year.

Beyond the conference preparation, the Board of Directors for UAPA has worked hard to set forth the 2016 Strategic Plan for the association.  It’s clear from their discussions that there is much more we can do to effectively and fairly tell the story of asphalt.  Not only from an educational perspective, but also in a renewed commitment to our core values of Commitment to Industry, Unified Voice, and Value to Members.  It will be exciting to work through our committees this year to achieve some very specific goals that will enhance the membership experience of UAPA, develop better communication strategies, and solidify the long-term stability and success of this organization.  We’ve come a long way in just a few short years as an organization, and I am excited to see what the next few years have in store - starting with 2016!
